A new family has begun worshipping at San Antonio Reformed Church since being stationed in San Antonio. Two core families have moved out of the area. Pray that finances will remain stable with the changes in membership. Pastor Moody is preparing for the youth group from Trinity OPC in Hatboro, PA, which will arrive in late August for a week of service. The group will run a VBS program in the morning and do various outreach projects in the afternoon. The men in officer training are currently studying the Book of Church Order. The congregation hopes to be able to particularize by the end of the year. A large group from the congregation enjoyed participating in the Presbytery of the Southwest’s recent youth camp.
The men who were nominated for office are reading John Owen’s “Communion with God” and will begin meeting for officer training next month. Pray that the Lord will give wisdom as they spend the next several months in this course. Several families who had been attending worship, but which did not join the congregation, have moved on. Pastor Myers reports that there has been a lull in new contacts. Pray that he will be able to use his time to effectively meet his many responsibilities. Pray too, that the Lord will provide an opportunity for an evangelistic Bible study. Myers is preaching through Genesis in the morning and will soon begin a series on contentment in the evening. With the snowbirds gone for the warmer months, Pastor Hausler was extremely encouraged that half of the congregation participated in a recent prayer meeting. The latest men’s breakfast also had a good turnout. There are weekly visitors to worship, some coming after listening to Pastor Hausler’s sermons on sermonaudio.com. Plans are being made for a parenting conference hosted by Christ the King. The congregation has a counseling and Christian education intern this summer. She is working with a women’s shelter, the county jail, a pregnancy center, and church families. Pray that the Lord will bless her work. Members of Covenant OPC will begin a new monthly outreach effort next month. Door hangers designed by a member will be distributed around the community. Pastor McKamy and others have also begun planning for quarterly open-air evangelism events. Beginning this fall, they will host discussions of how the Bible relates to relevant topics. One man recently joined the congregation, and another young man is currently taking a membership class. The congregation’s meeting location is far from ideal. Pray that the Lord will provide a suitable facility at an affordable price. Covenant has one deacon, and he has had many ministry opportunities. Pray that this work will lead to new people attending worship.
Reformation Presbyterian Church began as a small Bible study in 2012. The late Rev. Bryan Weaver and his wife were instrumental in these early days. Regional home missionaries Steve Doe and Lacey Andrews became deeply involved in the work as it was received as a mission work of the Presbytery of the Southeast in 2013. The pastoral search that began in early 2014 finally ended earlier this year, and Lowell Ivey was ordained and installed on May 27, 2016. The group currently meets in two separate locations for morning and evening worship. Pray that the Lord will provide a single facility suitable for worship and Christian education.
