Pastor Lacy Andrews, RHM for the Presbytery of the Southeast, continues his work in Winston Salem, NC, where he ordinarily fills the pulpit twice a month. He also visits the work in Virginia Beach once per month to encourage Lowell Ivey in his labors. He serves on five sessions, including the provisional sessions for the mission works in Neon, KY; Winston Salem, NC; Royston, GA; and Collierville, TN. He has also been assisting Geneva OPC in Marietta, GA, by augmenting their session and preaching once per month during the time the pulpit has been vacant. Pray for strength and safety in his travels and for future opportunities for church planting in the Presbytery of the Southeast.
Good Shepherd OPC is feeling the loss of a very involved family of six to an out-of-state move, but the congregation is encouraged by several recent regular visitors. Two covenant children, and two regular attenders are taking a membership class. Rev. Lynn Downing of “From Embers to a Flame” will soon be leading a Spiritual Foundations weekend at Good Shepherd. The seminar will include workshops on Saturday, and Downing will preach at both services on Sunday. Pray that the seminar will be well-attended and well-received. Summer outreach Bible studies were attended well by members, but didn’t have visitors. Pray that visitors will attend as one of the studies continues into the fall.
Two young couples from South Austin Presbyterian Church are moving out of state. Praise the Lord that several people moving into Austin have contacted SAPC. Pray that many new residents will join and be blessed at SAPC. The congregation has ended its radio ministry after seeing no fruit from it. Pray for wisdom as the communication and outreach committees determine how to best reach out to the city. Pastor Cassidy is preparing to begin officer training with a couple of men in October. The congregation is beginning to look for a new facility. Pray that the Lord will provide a suitable location in a booming real estate market. The Herndons recently moved to a house very near Providence’s building. Members of the congregation were helpful with the move, and neighbors are quickly connecting the Herndons with the church down the road. A couple from the neighborhood who walked by the church has begun attending regularly. Pray that outreach efforts to the neighbors will be effective. Pastor Herndon recently spoke to about 35 students at the Summer Christian Fellowship at Dartmouth College. Pray that this will lead to more students becoming involved in the life of Providence. Pastor Soud reports that Redeemer’s midweek Bible study took a summer break and they are hoping to have a strong re-start in the fall. He will also begin a new community Bible study at the local YMCA. Pray that this Tuesday morning study will be effective in reaching the community. Redeemer meets in Jefferson County, one of Alabama’s most densely populated, and the Souds live in Shelby County, the next county south, which is Alabama’s fastest growing and least churched counties. Pray for wisdom as the congregation seeks to reach the lost in both areas.
