The congregation has been encouraged by four young adults who have been active in inviting others to worship, and inviting Pastor McKamy to spend time with their friends. Praise the Lord for these young people. Also, pray that more families with children will be added to the congregation. The congregation took first place in Chambersburg’s Ice Fest chili competition earlier this year. The event yielded a few contacts with folks at the chamber of commerce. Members will soon be canvassing neighborhoods in Chambersburg. Pray for wisdom as the congregation considers how it might have more regular outreach events throughout the year. Many who have been invited indicated interest, but were unable to come to worship. Pray that they will be able to
Two regularly attending families have recently told Pastor Soud that they intend to look for other churches to attend. With these departures, the group is back to the people who were there before the Souds arrived. Attendance at evening worship has also declined. However, attendance has been good at a Bible study at the Souds’ home about half an hour south of Birmingham. At one recent Sunday, more than half of the 21 people in attendance were from outside the congregation. Pray for wisdom in seeking ways to bring these people to worship. Giving has remained strong. Pastor Soud is developing a good relationship with the director of the local YMCA, and the congregation will be represented at an upcoming Healthy Kids event. Pray that outreach
A single man was recently added to the congregation. One young couple has been attending regularly, and another has come to worship several times. After nine months in St. Louis, the Mourreales are getting to know both the congregation, and their new neighbors. Pray that relationships with their neighbors will naturally lead to invitations to worship. The congregation continues to meet at Westminster Academy, which doesn’t lend itself to focusing on outreach to a particular neighborhood. Pray for wisdom as plans are being made regarding where to make efforts in outreach. Pray too for continued growth in spiritual maturity in the congregation, and for continued unity.
The congregation will meet next month to vote on petitioning the presbytery to organize, hopefully before the end of the year. Two families have moved away from the area, and one other family has begun attending a different church, but a good core group remains, and enthusiasm and finances are solid. Two more families are currently taking membership classes, and several covenant children have been born in recent moths. The funeral of an older man from the congregation was well attended. Pastor Moersch reports that the work is normalizing and becoming more stable. Pray that peace and unity remain in the congregation as they go through the organization process. Pray too that God will bless the congregation with wise officers.
Pastor Beabout is encouraged by what is happening at Trinity Reformed Church. Attendance this year has averaged just under twenty after dipping to about 10 last year. Praise the Lord for a new family that has been attending regularly, and for members of Knox OPC in Silver Spring who have been encouraging to the congregation. Pray that four more families will be added this year. The people have been giving sacrificially and finances are strong. Members are now carrying welcome cards with them with the goal of giving out one per day to people they meet around town. Pray that this, as well as planned use of meetup.com, will bear much fruit. Pray for Pastor Beabout as he settles his mother’s estate.
