At the beginning of the month, Larry Oldaker moved from being the Presbytery of Ohio’s regional home missionary to being the church planter in Huron, Ohio. He has been serving this group for several years in his previous roll. Pastor Oldaker’s first contact in this Lake Erie shore town was a family who had moved into the area eight years ago. A group began meeting in 2008, and Larry has been helping the group ever since. About 30 people gather each week for worship, and the congregation asks for prayer that four new families will join them this year. They are seeking to reach out to people in nearby Sandusky and the rest of Erie County. Pray that the Oldakers will soon be settled in their new home and able to focus on serving the
Trinity Presbyterian Church continues to work towards the goal of becoming a particular congregation later this year. Pray for wisdom as the overseeing session prepares to certify men to serve as officers. Two families recently moved away from the area, and one other family is preparing to move. One new family recently joined the congregation. Pray for several members of the congregation with chronic health problems. Members enjoy monthly fellowship picnics throughout the summer. Pastor Moersch says that there have been a good number of visitors at worship. Pray that members continue to invite friends and acquaintances to worship, as word of mouth seems to be the most effective means of outreach in the area.
Four new members were added to Providence Reformed Church in the last month. Twice, recently, attendance has topped 70 people. Praise the Lord for new visitors, and pray that more will come. The schedule at the movie theater has gotten tighter on Sunday mornings, but there are two church buildings that look like they may be good places to meet. Pray for wisdom as the possible new locations are evaluated. Leadership classes will be starting soon. Several men have been certified to accompany Kim to attend weekly Bible studies at the jail, where as many as 15 inmates attend. Residents at three local nursing homes are also ministered to each week. Pray that the Lord will bless these efforts by drawing people to himself.
Three women from the congregation went to Quebec City to help the Westervelds with English Bible camp earlier this summer. The three college campus Bible studies are breaking for the summer, but plans are being made for a theology conference for all three Bible studies to begin the fall semester. There is still a bit of work to be done on the manse, and the front of the building needs to be refreshed, but funds are limited. The congregation continues to pray that they will become a particular congregation by 2020. One man pulled out of a membership class, but another man has indicated his desire to join. Pastor Bennett has talked with another couple about the possibility of joining as well. Pray that the Lord will add to the number in Neon,
A new family has begun worshipping at San Antonio Reformed Church since being stationed in San Antonio. Two core families have moved out of the area. Pray that finances will remain stable with the changes in membership. Pastor Moody is preparing for the youth group from Trinity OPC in Hatboro, PA, which will arrive in late August for a week of service. The group will run a VBS program in the morning and do various outreach projects in the afternoon. The men in officer training are currently studying the Book of Church Order. The congregation hopes to be able to particularize by the end of the year. A large group from the congregation enjoyed participating in the Presbytery of the Southwest’s recent youth camp.
