Two new families were received last week, and four more began membership classes. The Pasadena Bible study was put on hiatus over the summer, and will begin again with a dinner this fall. Pray that momentum will build quickly and that worship services will begin there in the near future. If you know someone in the Pasadena area who might be interested in a church plant, please contact Christ Hartshorn at email@example.com Preparations are being made to begin holding worship services in Corona in the next couple of months. Pray that they will find a suitable location, and that other logistics will be worked out in a timely manner. Leadership training will soon begin in Anaheim Hills. Pray that the Lord will raise up local officers
Two families are taking membership classes at Providence OPC. Praise God for bringing new people into the congregation. Currently, word-of-mouth is the main outreach method for the church, and word is getting out around town. Pray for wisdom as the session discusses other options for reaching out to neighbors. Pray too, for wisdom as they consider what to do about a meeting place in the future. Members recently assisted a local organization that ministers to those in the poorer neighborhoods of Tulsa. Pray that this will bear fruit in the lives of those who were ministered to, and pray for more ministry opportunities like this. The practice of regular family visitation by the session continues to be well received.
Members of Living Water OPC were out in their community handing out copies of Luke and interacting with neighbors. No one has come to worship as a result, though several good contacts were made. Several families have visited worship recently after being invited in other contexts, and several more are preparing to join. Pastor Peppo was interviewed for a Miami Valley Skeptics Podcast called, “Who do They Say that I Am?” It will be aired soon on the local NPR station. Pray that the lost will hear Christ’s claims and respond in belief. Pray too for wisdom as the congregation seeks effective outreach and evangelism opportunities including monthly fellowship meals open and visible to the community.
The newest presbytery in the OPC, and one of the smallest, PCP is active in church planting. Elder Chris Walmer, serving as part-time Regional Home Missions Coordinator has led these efforts. He worked closely with Pastor Jeremiah Montgomery as Resurrection OPC in State College, Pa. was established. He assists two current mission works: Omega OPC in West Williamsport, Pa., and Covenant OPC in Chambersburg, Pa. He is also assessing several new areas of opportunity. The southeastern part of the presbytery is growing rapidly. Chris recently heard of a small bible study devoted to the Reformed and Presbyterian faith in Lebanon, Pa. If you know of anyone living in the area who may be interested in an OPC church plant please contact Chris at
Remember to pray for Knox OPC and her pastor Jeremy Logan as they have completed their program of denominational financial assistance. Two families have been visiting regularly and one has begun membership classes. The congregation is in the process of nominating deacon candidates. Pray that the Lord will raise up faithful servants to serve the body in Mount Vernon. The congregation has begun a building fund, but is happy to remain in their current facility for the time being. Pastor Logan is leading the group the John Blanchard’s Ultimate Questions in a Bible study. Several in the congregation are working to update the congregation’s web page, which will include an introductory video. Pray that this will be an effective way to communicate
