Verde Valley Reformed Church is now Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church. Pastor Brian Chang is working hard to get the name out to people around Cottonwood. He recently had a booth at two local festivals and was able to make several good contacts. Some visited worship. Brian plans to set up a table at the local farmers market each Thursday evening. Pray that these regular outreach efforts will produce more contacts. Brian is encouraged by the foundation that has been laid. Pray that God will be pleased to add more people. Some visitors who attended for a while have drifted away, others have moved out of the area, but a new couple attended worship last week after seeing their sign on the street. A good number of vacationers have visited
Cornerstone OPC received a new family into membership in May, and several other families have visited worship. Ten men attended the congregation’s first men’s retreat. The congregation is ministering to new believers in their midst. The women of the church also recently held a baby shower to gather supplies for a local crisis pregnancy center. One hundred forty people attended a joint evening service and heard Ben Hopp’s presentation about the work in Haiti. Pray that the summer will be a time of spiritual rest between a busy spring and a busy fall for the congregation. The congregation’s website was recently redesigned, and new audio equipment was purchased to increase the recording quality for sermons posted on sermonaudio.com.
Grace OPC has added 11 new members in the last several months bringing the total membership to about 70. There have also been many visitors over the last several months. A recent dinner and auction fundraiser brought in enough money to buy new basketball hoops for the church property. Many neighborhood children play basketball there, and the congregation seeks to build relationships with them and their families. Pray that the Lord will give wisdom as decisions are made about how to develop these relationships to God’s glory. Each month the congregation gathers for a workday. Last month a new hedge was planted to help combat a graffiti problem. A Tuesday Bible study is well attended, and pastoral visitation is bearing fruit.
Pastor Ro reports that numbers often drop this time of year as college students head home. More Chicago natives have joined the congregation in the last year so things have stabilized a bit at Gospel Life. Pray that a good number of people will come during the usual fall bump when many new students and residents arrive in Chicago. Many who have begun attending worship came after attending one of the midweek Bible studies. Pray that the Lord will continue to send new people to these Bible studies. A member who leads the Wednesday study moved home to North Carolina but has recently returned to Chicago. Pray that the Lord will give wisdom and a burden to the congregation to reach the lost in Chicago.
Remember to keep in prayer Redeemer OPC Mission and her pastor Tom Albaugh as they have completed their program of denominational financial assistance. The congregation’s relationship with Trinity Christian School, where they meet, remains good. Pastor Albaugh recently helped with the school’s work-a-thon which gave him an opportunity to meet new people and introduce them to ROPC. Two families will soon transfer as men begin ministerial internships. Several other families have moved away or have not attended regularly. Pray for wisdom for the overseeing session as they consider the future of the work. Pray too for Pastor Albaugh and his family as they help to care for his father.
