Pastor Ro reports that numbers often drop this time of year as college students head home. More Chicago natives have joined the congregation in the last year so things have stabilized a bit at Gospel Life. Pray that a good number of people will come during the usual fall bump when many new students and residents arrive in Chicago. Many who have begun attending worship came after attending one of the midweek Bible studies. Pray that the Lord will continue to send new people to these Bible studies. A member who leads the Wednesday study moved home to North Carolina but has recently returned to Chicago. Pray that the Lord will give wisdom and a burden to the congregation to reach the lost in Chicago.
Remember to keep in prayer Redeemer OPC Mission and her pastor Tom Albaugh as they have completed their program of denominational financial assistance. The congregation’s relationship with Trinity Christian School, where they meet, remains good. Pastor Albaugh recently helped with the school’s work-a-thon which gave him an opportunity to meet new people and introduce them to ROPC. Two families will soon transfer as men begin ministerial internships. Several other families have moved away or have not attended regularly. Pray for wisdom for the overseeing session as they consider the future of the work. Pray too for Pastor Albaugh and his family as they help to care for his father.
The saints at AHPC continue to rejoice in the work that God is doing in their midst. The numbers continue to grow and giving is well above the targeted goals. Please pray that the members will continue to be active in inviting people and that visitors will continue to come – including unbelievers who will hear the gospel and be saved. The session is planning on starting a leadership training class in October. Please pray that God will raise up elders and deacons from the congregation so that the work can particularize in 2017. Also, please pray for our church plant in Corona – that all things would go smoothly, including Matt Prather’s preparation for his ordination exams, and that morning worship will begin in October 2016.
Pastor Herndon reports that life has been ordinary for the congregation. There has been a slow, but steady, trickle of visitors. One of the college students who has been attending is transferring her membership. Pray for wisdom and grace in enfolding those who are on the periphery of the congregation. Outreach plans are being made for the summer months. Pray that the Lord will bless these efforts to let more people know about the presence of Providence. Pray, too, that the Lord will raise up officers for the congregation. A couple who attends on Sunday evenings recently gave dozens of Trinity Hymnals to the congregation. There are several projects that need to be done on the building. Pray that details will be worked out for teams to come
Living Water OPC’s new rental space has been a blessing to the congregation. Members recently knocked on doors and distributed 600 fliers inviting their new neighbors to worship with them on Easter, but no visitors came as a result. Pray that the Lord will bless the next sweep through the neighborhood inviting people to an evangelistic study on the book of Luke. More than half of the congregation is between the ages of 10 and 25. One couple and two families joined the congregation in April, and another family and a college student are taking membership classes. Pastor Peppo is beginning a pastoral visitation schedule this month. College Bible studies have gone well. Pray for God’s blessing on four graduating students who will be leaving the
