Remember to pray for Covenant OPC and their pastor Christopher Chelpka as they have completed their program of denominational financial assistance. Pray that the Lord will bless the church with new families and that visitors will continue to be drawn to the congregation through their outreach into the community. Already, the congregation’s elders are serving on the overseeing sessions of two other mission works. Pray that the Lord will provide strength and wisdom as they serve Covenant and the works in Concho and Yuma.
Christ Covenant OPC now gathers twice each Lord’s Day. One week a month, that means an afternoon service after the monthly fellowship meal. The other weeks are evening gatherings with varied formats. A member who has been brought under care of the Presbytery is now teaching Sunday school. Pastor Wilkins praises God for a strong core group and good fellowship. The congregation has been faithful in outreach and sees visitors once or twice a month, but the numbers are not growing. Pray that God will give wisdom and effectiveness in outreach and that more families will be added to the number in Crystal Lake. Praise God that despite the stagnant numbers, he has provided abundantly in financial matters.
Hillsdale OPC is growing. Eleven people from the community have joined. Several students from Hillsdale College are preparing to join; some of them will be baptized upon their profession of faith. Three babies were born recently and more are on the way. Pray for the continued health of mothers and children. A counseling practice is renting two offices from the church, but due to the growth, there is no more space to rent. Another community Bible study is under way and several new visitors have attended. The Presbytery of Michigan and Ontario approved the congregation’s petition to particularize. Pray for the session as they transition to being a new and separate congregation. Pray too for wisdom in effectively reaching out to the community.
Officer training is complete at Providence OPC, and the congregation is preparing for a meeting to petition the Presbytery of the Central United States to be particularized. Pray for wisdom for the two elder candidates. Morning attendance is steady at about 60 people, and the evening service has been well received also. Many remain after morning worship to share a fellowship meal. Pray for wisdom in setting the Lord’s Day schedule to benefit those who drive a great distance to worship. While there is still space in the current location, the congregation is beginning to prepare for the day when they need a larger space. Pray that the people of Providence will continue to grow in their love for God, and that the congregation will also grow in
Redeemer OP Mission was without heat for the month of January. In February, they found out that their lease could not be renewed because of the wording of the property’s deed. March 8 was the congregation’s first Sunday in its new home at Trinity Christian School’s auditorium. The rent is slightly higher, but still reasonable, and the facility is nicer. The change of venue also means a change of neighborhood from Wilkinsburg to Forrest Hills. Pray for wisdom as plans are made to reach out to the people of their new community. Five people professed their faith, and two were baptized last week. Pastor Albaugh is praying that the work will be self-sustaining and self-governing by year’s end. Pray that more solid core families will be added to
