Christ Covenant OPC lost a family to an out-of-state move, but there has been an uptick in the number of visitors this year. Pray that those who visit worship will return and become part of the work. Pray too that the Lord will raise up officers for the body in Crystal Lake. While the group is struggling to get past an average attendance of 30 people, giving has been strong, largely covering monthly expenses. Preparations are being made to have a booth at the county fair. In past years mostly believers stopped by the booth. Pray that God will provide a way to meet more unbelievers this year. Pastor Wilkins was recently invited to conduct a worship service at a nursing home where one of Christ Covenant’s members leads a Bible study. The
Immanuel Church began meeting on Sunday mornings on May 17. The switch from an afternoon service meant the loss of three couples from the core group, but the Lord has graciously brought three new couples into the group in recent weeks. Another couple plans to join the group later this summer. The Hoekstras are preparing to host a block party as a way to get to know their neighbors better. Later in the summer other members will do the same. Pray that these gatherings will be effective ways to develop relationships with neighbors. One Sunday evening a month the group gathers for a Q&A time. A group of young people will come for two days to pass out literature about the church plant and hold a car wash. Pray that the Lord will bless these
Omega OPC is set to close on a building, a former steak house that another church adapted, on June 22. Pray that the final details will be worked out, and that the building will be well used to God’s glory. Pray too that the congregation will remain unified throughout the transition to the new location. On Friendship Sunday, the fifth Sunday of each month, members are encouraged to invite acquaintances to worship. After a slow period the congregation has had six unexpected visitors each of the last three Sundays. Several visitors have also attended a series of events offering time for questions and answers followed by food. Pray that these visitors will return and desire to join the congregation.
An old basketball hoop on Grace OPC’s property has enabled pastor Lyon to get to know neighborhood kids who gather there for pick-up games. Some of them have begun attending the congregation’s movie nights. Pray for an opportunity to begin a Bible study with them. On Sunday evenings members deliver bags with food and a copy of “Christ Proclaims a Better Way” to homeless people in the neighborhood around Grace. Pray that these outreach efforts will result in visitors. Praise God for several recent visitors and pray that more people will desire to become members. Grace’s website is dated, and no one in the congregation has the expertise to improve it. Pray that the Lord will provide for an attractive and informative face on the Internet.
Praise God for two men who will soon join Providence, one by reaffirmation of faith, and the other by profession of faith and baptism. Several others are taking membership classes. Pastor Kuhfuss visits a local nursing home regularly, and he and a member minister to those at the local jail. Wednesday evening Bible study, and Saturday prayer breakfasts are a regular part of congregational life. Attendance has averaged in the 40s, but has seen a recent jump. Pray that visitors will continue to worship with Providence. The congregation is losing one family who is moving away. Pray that 2,600 mailers, which will soon be sent throughout town, will be well received. Pray too that God will bless the Bible study in Thorp, Wisconsin about 45 minutes
