An old basketball hoop on Grace OPC’s property has enabled pastor Lyon to get to know neighborhood kids who gather there for pick-up games. Some of them have begun attending the congregation’s movie nights. Pray for an opportunity to begin a Bible study with them. On Sunday evenings members deliver bags with food and a copy of “Christ Proclaims a Better Way” to homeless people in the neighborhood around Grace. Pray that these outreach efforts will result in visitors. Praise God for several recent visitors and pray that more people will desire to become members. Grace’s website is dated, and no one in the congregation has the expertise to improve it. Pray that the Lord will provide for an attractive and informative face on the Internet.
Praise God for two men who will soon join Providence, one by reaffirmation of faith, and the other by profession of faith and baptism. Several others are taking membership classes. Pastor Kuhfuss visits a local nursing home regularly, and he and a member minister to those at the local jail. Wednesday evening Bible study, and Saturday prayer breakfasts are a regular part of congregational life. Attendance has averaged in the 40s, but has seen a recent jump. Pray that visitors will continue to worship with Providence. The congregation is losing one family who is moving away. Pray that 2,600 mailers, which will soon be sent throughout town, will be well received. Pray too that God will bless the Bible study in Thorp, Wisconsin about 45 minutes
Reformation OPC has begun looking for a new location for evening worship and midweek activities. The relationship with Public School 173 has improved greatly, and morning worship will continue to be held there. Praise God for his answer to prayer, and pray that a location will be found for new worship and ministry opportunities. After a period when few visitors came to worship, 20 new visitors have come within the last three months. Pray that they will return and that more will come. Pastor Shishko is encouraged by a number of people taking increased responsibilities within the congregation. Several men are working through officer training as the congregation works towards particularization. Pray that this process will go smoothly.
Illness, travel, and the loss of two visiting families have lowered attendance at South Austin Presbyterian Church since the beginning of the year. But giving has increased, and a good number of first-time visitors have come to worship. Pastor Cassidy says that everyone is pitching in to do the work of the church, and four committees have been established to make that work efficient. Several in the church have been going door-to-door and word is getting out online. Several more events are being planned for later this year. Pray that the Lord will bless these efforts by bringing new families into the church. Pray for wisdom for those in officer training as it wraps up next month. Praise God for providing a good rental space at a local
Verde Valley Reformed Chapel’s move to a school has been good. The space is easier to find than their old location, and several new local visitors have come to worship. Pastor Chang has begun doing door-to-door outreach. He also had the opportunity to speak to the Cru (formerly Campus Crusade) group at Northern Arizona University, and will soon speak at a local Christian school that seems to be moving in the Reformed direction. Several applicants for teaching positions at the school have indicated a desire for Reformed worship in the area. The congregation is also advertising in a monthly mailer. Praise God for these avenues into the community and pray that he will bless the congregation with local growth.
