Pastor Arendale reports that the church has been going full steam ahead since organizing last October. Several people have joined Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in the last few months. The new session has assigned each family an elder in an effort to be intentional about shepherding. Pray that the congregation will continue to develop as a body. There continues to be a fairly steady stream of new faces at worship. A new Bible study is scheduled to provide an opportunity for members to invite friends. Pray that many will respond to invitations. Pray too for Cornerstone and the Presbytery as they begin to explore the possibility of a new church plant in south Houston.
Living Water OPC will hold it’s first public worship service at the Courtyard by Marriott on February 1. Pray that the word will be proclaimed faithfully in this town of 60,000 which was named the unhappiest city in America in 2011. Many in the group have been driving about 25 miles to worship at Covenant OPC in Vandalia, OH. Pray that the Lord will bless Covenant as this group transitions to the new work. Brad Peppo who currently serves as Covenant’s associate pastor is commuting to Springfield several days a week for now. Pray that he will be able to make contacts as he works in the community. Pray too that efforts to minister to students at local colleges will bear fruit.
Tony Garbarino was ordained and installed as pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church on November 7. He and his family have been traveling about 30 miles from San Jose, but they plan to move in the coming weeks. Pray for wisdom in scheduling his week so he can both preach effectively and have sufficient time to be out in the community making contacts. Pray that the move will go smoothly. About 30 people gather each week for worship with occasional visitors from the community. One man has been visiting regularly. Pray for the congregation as it meets soon to discuss the state of the work and to establish plans for the future.
Omega OPC is nearing the end of their denominational financial support, but they exceeded their budget for the first time last year. Pray that God will continue to bless the congregation as they have taken on a more aggressive budget this year. Pray too, that they will find a more suitable meeting location. The current location is hard to find, there is no kitchen area, and one Sunday school class meets in the hall. A committee continues to look for a new worship location. The congregation has scheduled a number of outreach events in the coming months and has begun meeting the week before Friendship Sundays to pray for those who members plan to invite to worship. Pray that these efforts will bear much fruit. Pray too, that the Lord will
Students have returned to Alice Lloyd College, and 13 gathered with Pastor Bennett for the first study of the spring semester. Some from the group have begun to worship at Neon, including several who are taking a membership class. The congregation is preparing to say goodbye to long-time members moving to Virginia, but the people have been encouraged to see new couples attending worship. Another couple has told Pastor Bennett that they intend to begin worshiping at NRPC. Pray that God will continue to add to the excitement and energy of the congregation. Several from the church have gone door-to-door in the nearby towns of Pikeville and Whitesburg. Pray that the Lord will bless these outreach efforts with much fruit.
