Pastor Shishko, along with many other pastors in New York, is preaching through six Biblical questions that every Christian needs to answer. He is also preparing an officer training class for one ruling elder and two deacon candidates. While the congregation is involved in a variety of outreach activities and serves at a local crisis pregnancy center and homeless shelter, attendance has stagnated around 50 people. They are committed to the work, and enjoy regular fellowship throughout the week. Pray that contacts will become visitors and eventually members. Shishko wants Reformation to be known as a church with an emphasis on pastoral care. Praise the Lord for providing financially for the congregation.
Resurrection OPC installed its first deacon toward the end of last year. Pray that the Lord will raise up another deacon to work alongside him. Praise God that the session is working well together. Attendance dipped slightly in January, but giving has been strong. Discuss Your Faith, Pastor Montgomery’s open-air preaching ministry on Penn State University’s campus, got off to a cold, but good start for the spring semester, and has enjoyed the support of other Christians on campus. The congregation signed a long-term lease with the catering facility where they meet, but still hopes to find their own building. Pray that the Lord will give wisdom as they search. Pray too that members will have opportunity to invite others to worship.
Trinity Reformed Church now gathers for worship each Lord’s Day morning. Attendance has been good despite the fact that a number of members are in college and can’t be home every week. After worship the congregation has a prayer meeting, which is largely focused on evangelistic contacts. Pastor Beabout recently finished a sermon series on worship, and says the congregation, which was a Bible study group for years, is beginning to see themselves corporately as the Body of Christ. Pray that Pastor Beabout will effectively shepherd the people, many of whom are young in the faith. Plans are being made for organized outreach and evangelism efforts when the weather gets warmer. Pray that these efforts will bear fruit.
Pastor Arendale reports that the church has been going full steam ahead since organizing last October. Several people have joined Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in the last few months. The new session has assigned each family an elder in an effort to be intentional about shepherding. Pray that the congregation will continue to develop as a body. There continues to be a fairly steady stream of new faces at worship. A new Bible study is scheduled to provide an opportunity for members to invite friends. Pray that many will respond to invitations. Pray too for Cornerstone and the Presbytery as they begin to explore the possibility of a new church plant in south Houston.
Living Water OPC will hold it’s first public worship service at the Courtyard by Marriott on February 1. Pray that the word will be proclaimed faithfully in this town of 60,000 which was named the unhappiest city in America in 2011. Many in the group have been driving about 25 miles to worship at Covenant OPC in Vandalia, OH. Pray that the Lord will bless Covenant as this group transitions to the new work. Brad Peppo who currently serves as Covenant’s associate pastor is commuting to Springfield several days a week for now. Pray that he will be able to make contacts as he works in the community. Pray too that efforts to minister to students at local colleges will bear fruit.
