Tony Garbarino was ordained and installed as pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church on November 7. He and his family have been traveling about 30 miles from San Jose, but they plan to move in the coming weeks. Pray for wisdom in scheduling his week so he can both preach effectively and have sufficient time to be out in the community making contacts. Pray that the move will go smoothly. About 30 people gather each week for worship with occasional visitors from the community. One man has been visiting regularly. Pray for the congregation as it meets soon to discuss the state of the work and to establish plans for the future.
Omega OPC is nearing the end of their denominational financial support, but they exceeded their budget for the first time last year. Pray that God will continue to bless the congregation as they have taken on a more aggressive budget this year. Pray too, that they will find a more suitable meeting location. The current location is hard to find, there is no kitchen area, and one Sunday school class meets in the hall. A committee continues to look for a new worship location. The congregation has scheduled a number of outreach events in the coming months and has begun meeting the week before Friendship Sundays to pray for those who members plan to invite to worship. Pray that these efforts will bear much fruit. Pray too, that the Lord will
Students have returned to Alice Lloyd College, and 13 gathered with Pastor Bennett for the first study of the spring semester. Some from the group have begun to worship at Neon, including several who are taking a membership class. The congregation is preparing to say goodbye to long-time members moving to Virginia, but the people have been encouraged to see new couples attending worship. Another couple has told Pastor Bennett that they intend to begin worshiping at NRPC. Pray that God will continue to add to the excitement and energy of the congregation. Several from the church have gone door-to-door in the nearby towns of Pikeville and Whitesburg. Pray that the Lord will bless these outreach efforts with much fruit.
South Austin Presbyterian Church begins denominational financial support this month. The congregation began when members who drove a distance to Providence Presbyterian Church in Pflugerville, TX began meeting for a Bible study closer to home. The group began holding worship services shortly after Pastor Jim Cassidy arrived last July. Austin is a growing city, and several families have been added to the original core group. Many new residents have found the congregation through web searches, and last week, three families visited worship. A two-day seminar is scheduled as part of the current Sunday school class on evangelism. Pray for wisdom as the Presbytery votes Saturday on the congregation’s petition to become a particular congregation.
Grace OPC remains a small but good group according to Pastor Hoadley. About 18 people currently gather on Sunday morning, including two families who recently joined the work. Pastor Hoadley has updated the church website. The congregation went Christmas caroling at two local nursing homes in December, and the family of one resident has indicated that they will visit worship as a result. Pray that this and other outreach opportunities will bear fruit. Pray also for wisdom as future outreach events are planned. Praise God for the way members have taken initiative, and pray that they will continue to grow as a body.
