Verde Valley Reformed Chapel will begin meeting in a school in January. The new facility is only slightly more expensive than the current location, but is much more visible. Pray that greater visibility will lead to local visitors to worship, especially since many members live some distance from Cottonwood. VVRC had a booth at the local Fall Festival, and many people took literature about the church. Pray that these contacts will bear fruit. Pray too for wisdom as the congregation considers what outreach efforts will be effective. Pray for several in the congregation who are dealing with serious health issues. Pastor Chang is encouraged by the commitment of the core group, and the way that several members have recently taken on new
About 185 people attend morning worship each Lord’s Day. The congregation had its first covenant baptisms late this summer. These baptisms, along with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, have provided good opportunities to teach about the Reformed perspective to those from varied backgrounds. Pray for the Edmondson family, which is mourning the sudden loss of Mika’s father this summer. Men’s and women’s Bible studies have begun and are well attended. A Sunday school program has also been started with about 70 in attendance. Pastor Edmondson is leading the adult class on the Heidelberg Catechism. Pray that children and adults alike will be blessed by the teaching they receive.
Some recent visitors to worship are looking for a church and have expressed interest in Good Shepherd. On October 31, three new families attended a party at the church. The congregation is also participating in Project Angel Tree and will host the children at a party on December 14. Pray that they will respond in faith to the evangelistic presentation that will be given. A winter conference with Dr. Alan Strange and Dr. Darryl Hart will be held in February. The congregation has also given diaconal help to several families over the last few months. Pray that these efforts will bear fruit. Two men have been nominated for the office of elder. They have been trained over the last few months and will stand for election next Sunday.
Christ Covenant has seen new members brought into the core group, and an infant was recently baptized. The congregation has started a ministry to people who have recently moved to Crystal Lake, giving a welcome bag that has a Gospel tract, New Testament, church brochure, and other church information. Several shops and service providers in town sponsor the bags. This has opened doors not only with new residents, but also with the shop owners in town. Pray that these new contacts will become new visitors at worship, and that these outreach opportunities will become open doors for the advance of the gospel in Crystal Lake.
The Lord has continued to bless Naples OPC with growth, and the congregation is welcoming snowbirds back. Every Lord's Day, a large van-load of men from a local faith-based addiction recovery program comes to the evening worship service, which has really encouraged the core-group. This means that there are often more people at the evening service than the morning service. Also, at the last meeting of the session, 15 people were received onto the rolls of the Presbytery of the South as the first members of Naples OPC. Pray that the Lord will soon provide an affordable, larger, visible, and easily accessible place to rent for worship. Pray too for Pastor Hausler as he travels regularly to Haiti to serve the work there.
