South Austin Presbyterian Church begins denominational financial support this month. The congregation began when members who drove a distance to Providence Presbyterian Church in Pflugerville, TX began meeting for a Bible study closer to home. The group began holding worship services shortly after Pastor Jim Cassidy arrived last July. Austin is a growing city, and several families have been added to the original core group. Many new residents have found the congregation through web searches, and last week, three families visited worship. A two-day seminar is scheduled as part of the current Sunday school class on evangelism. Pray for wisdom as the Presbytery votes Saturday on the congregation’s petition to become a particular congregation.
Grace OPC remains a small but good group according to Pastor Hoadley. About 18 people currently gather on Sunday morning, including two families who recently joined the work. Pastor Hoadley has updated the church website. The congregation went Christmas caroling at two local nursing homes in December, and the family of one resident has indicated that they will visit worship as a result. Pray that this and other outreach opportunities will bear fruit. Pray also for wisdom as future outreach events are planned. Praise God for the way members have taken initiative, and pray that they will continue to grow as a body.
Sovereign Grace Reformed Church finishes its term of denominational financial assistance this month, but the small congregation is already investigating the possibility of planting a church about an hour west in West Plains, Missouri. Pray for wisdom in advertising an upcoming informational meeting. Pray too for a midweek Bible study that is planned following the meeting. Pastor Harding says that while the congregation in Doniphan is small, they are strong and very committed to the work. Sunday school teachers have done a good job taking the congregation through the Heidelberg Catechism. Pray for Sovereign Grace's session as they continue to learn to lead together. Pray for God's continued protection and blessing on the body, and that he
Pastor Ro is recovering from a six-week bout with laryngitis. The Lord provided for his people during the time when John could not preach or lead Bible studies. Two men, one under care of the Presbytery of the Midwest and one under care of the Presbytery of the Southeast, helped lead worship and Bible studies. Pray that God will restore John to full health, and that the Lord will give wisdom and strength as John keeps a busy schedule. Praise him for adding to the number of people who gather for the outreach Bible study on Wednesday evenings. Several new visitors have also begun regularly attending worship over the past few months. Pray that more visitors will be brought in.
After months of delays, Providence Presbyterian Church closed on its building. Several groups from around the country have gone to West Lebanon to do work on the building, which has helped the congregation see its connection to the denomination. Others have donated money and furniture. A new furnace has been installed. Pray that the Lord will provide a pianist who can play regularly. Several visitors have come as a result of the new building and an article in the local newspaper. Pastor Herndon notes that there is a sweet-spirited fellowship within the congregation. Pray that the congregation will be effective in reaching out to its new neighbors. Pray too for wisdom as they seek ways to reach students at nearby Dartmouth College.
