One family is transferring their membership to Gateway OPC, and several others have been attending worship regularly. One of these families has not yet professed faith in Christ, but has expressed interest in the gospel. Pray that the Lord will work in their hearts and bring them to salvation. Pastor Wagenmaker says the congregation gives generously. Praise the Lord for his financial provision for the work. Members enjoyed fellowship at the annual fall picnic, and the men are looking forward to an upcoming retreat with other Orthodox Presbyterian men in the area. Pastor Wagenmaker is considering a call to another congregation. He asks for prayer for wisdom and for the congregation during a time of uncertainty.
Tony Garbarino, Providence Presbyterian’s church planter, sustained his exams and will be ordained on November 7. Members of the group have stepped up to take on much of the responsibility for the set-up and tear-down each week of the worship space. Two new families have been in contact with Pastor Garbarino in recent weeks. The congregation has a new sign, and is now listed in the local newspaper’s church directory. They are also sending out mailers and distributing flyers. Pray that the Lord will use these efforts to bring many to Providence. The congregation does not have anyone to accompany singing. Pray that the Lord will provide a pianist. A midweek study on evangelism and apologetics had been well received.
Cornerstone OPC was organized as a new and separate congregation on the Presbytery of the Southwest last Friday. About 55 people attend worship each week, including a regular stream of visitors. Two families recently joined the congregation, and several more are preparing to join. The Lord has answered prayer in providing a pianist to accompany congregational singing. Cornerstone recently held a joint theology conference with nearby Providence OPC, and continues to advertise on Facebook. Pray that friends and neighbors invited by members will come to worship. Houston’s size and traffic make midweek meetings difficult. Pray too that the congregation will be able to gather for prayer, Bible study and fellowship during the week.
With no place else to meet, a group gathered to study God’s word in a mall food court. Providentially, an OP family who was there overheard the study and invited the group to begin meeting in their house. Over time RHM Steve Doe and others nurtured the group. Last Friday, Ron Beabout was installed to serve as Trinity Reformed Church’s pastor. Pray for Ron and Carol as they get settled in their new home. Pray too that they will quickly get to know the members of the congregation, few of whom have Orthodox Presbyterian backgrounds. Pastor Beabout says the group has a passion for God’s word, for reaching the lost, and for a deeper understanding of the Reformed faith. Pray that many will be receptive to the invitation to worship with them. Pray
Resurrection OPC was established as a new and separate congregation of the Presbytery of Central Pennsylvania on Friday, October 3. Jeremiah Montgomery was installed as her organizing pastor and four ruling elders were also installed. Pray that the new session will work well together as they lead the church. About 60 people gather each Lord’s Day for worship. With the fall Semester in full swing, Pastor Montgomery has again begun Discuss Your Faith, his weekly preaching on the Penn State campus. Pray that the Holy Spirit will use this proclamation of the gospel to bring many to himself. The congregation continues to enjoy spending time together at various Bible studies and fellowship activities. Pray that the Lord will provide a permanent
