As freshmen report to Hillsdale College for the first time since Hillsdale OPC’s move off campus, pray that many will still find a church home there. Pray too for wisdom for students as some have been encouraged to convert to Roman Catholicism. The summer community Bible study was well attended, and several from the study have attended worship. Preparations are being made for another community Bible study, Pastor Henes has weekly articles in the local papers, and many are helping with HOPCs booth at the county fair. Pray that God will bless these outreach efforts. Pray that the Lord will grant wisdom to the session as it seeks to bring college students and community members closer together.
Members from Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church are busy at the McHenry County Fair this week. They will again use a survey, displaying the real-time results, to engage fair-goers in conversations. Pray that the Lord will use these efforts to build his kingdom. There has been a recent uptick in the number of visitors, and several people are in various stages of becoming members of the congregation. Christ Covenant continues to enjoy a good relationship with the congregation from which they rent, and the space accommodates them well. Pray for wisdom in identifying men to serve as officers. Though the congregation is small the Lord has blessed it with faithful giving, and it is doing well financially. Pray that the Lord will raise up
Grace OPC has lost several families over the past few months, mainly due to people moving from the area. Visitors are attending worship, and some families are staying, including one woman from the neighborhood who brings her five children. Pray that these visitors will be committed to the work, and that others will come. A middle school/high school Sunday school class has been added, and the room where they meet was recently renovated. Pray for preparations to add an adult Sunday school class in the coming weeks. Pastor Lyon has been at Grace OPC for about a year. Pray that old and new members of the congregation will continue to serve the Lord together. Pray that God will continue to provide financially.
A family from the area recently began attending Verde Valley Reformed Chapel, and a family with a second home in Cottonwood has visited with some regularity. Most of VVRC’s growth has come from people moving into the area, but the congregation is beginning to see some more local people at worship. Pray for wisdom as the session begins to think more pointedly about outreach in this town of about 20,000 people. Ruling Elder Josh Taylor has struggled with near constant headaches for the past year. Pray that a recent diagnosis will be a step towards relief from this pain, which has limited him.
Three new families have begun attending Providence Reformed Church in the last few months. One is a snowbird couple, one live about 10 miles out of town, and one travels an hour to attend worship. Pray that regular visitors will desire to join the congregation. The congregation continues to advertise on the Web, in print and on the radio. Pray that the Lord will bless these outreach efforts. Pray too for wisdom as the congregation seeks ways to reach out to the more than 10,000 students at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. A group from Providence has begun cooking once a month at a local mission. Pray that they will be able to effectively present the gospel to those they serve.
