A building search committee is working to secure a location that would offer Providence Presbyterian Church greater visibility and expanded opportunities for ministry. One man is taking a membership class, and a couple of regular visitors to the Wednesday night Bible study have been an encouragement to the congregation. A brainstorming session on outreach and servant evangelism will take place in early March. Pray that God will be pleased to use this event to encourage his people to reach out to their community. Pray for wisdom and strength for Pastor Jeromin and the one ruling elder actively serving at Providence, and that the Lord will raise up more leaders. Pray also, that this small group will not grow weary.
An international student from Singapore who has brought several friends to worship will finish her studies in May. Pray that Gateway OPC will have opportunities to continue to minister to international students in their area. One of the students who came is now attending school in Berkley California, and is preparing for membership at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Praise God for this fruit. Giving has been strong. Several people who traveled some distance to Gateway, but seemed ready to join the congregation have decided to attend a church closer to home. One man joined Verde Valley Reformed Chapel last month, and another has come back to the work. A couple is preparing to join. Several others have visited, including some who attend regularly. Pray that more visitors will come to worship, and that those who already come will stay. One of the core families has moved away from the work, but Pastor Brian (Sara) Chang sees the work moving slowly in the right direction. Pray that the Lord will continue to strengthen and establish this congregation. The congregation gives faithfully to the work, and the finances have been good. Attendance at Morning worship is about 35 people each Lord’s Day. The Presbytery of Southern California appointed a new session for the mission work.
Pastor Brandon (Laurie) Wilkins is teaching through Calvin Cummings’ Confessing Christ as a combined new members class and refresher Sunday school class. The congregation’s lease is due to be renewed soon. Pray that the good relationship with the Lutheran congregation that owns the building will continue. Praise God for recent visitors and pray that returning visitors will join the congregation. Members of Christ Covenant will have a booth at a local expo in March. New City Fellowship is the OPC’s newest church plant. Mika (Christina) Edmondson was installed last Friday as a Church Planting Pastor at Harvest OPC in Grand Rapids to lead the new congregation. About 40 people have been meeting biweekly to discuss things like evangelism and public worship in preparation for the first worship service on March 30. Ceiling repairs, new lighting and painting are being completed on the building, which was purchased for the work. Pray that God will bless the capital campaign to pay off the building that sits in close proximity to three distinct ethnic groups.
