Last spring, Grace OPC had about 20 members. With several people preparing to join in the next two months, that number has swelled to 50. Last summer, not one visitor attended worship. Pastor Joshua (Jessica) Lyon praises God for bringing many visitors since then. Members and friends put in 600 hours of labor to renovate the foyer, a hallway and a Sunday school room. While more maintenance and renovation projects are needed, these improvements have been an encouragement to the people. Pray for wisdom as efforts are made to utilize the building every day of the week. Specifically, pray for the development of an effective outreach to a large number of homeless people in the area. Pray too that the Lord will provide someone to re-design
Pastor Carlos (Diana) Cruz is working with Iglesia Presbiteriana Reformada, Misión de Ponce, OPC located in Ponce in south-central Puerto Rico about a two hour drive from our congregations in San Juan. The town, like much of Puerto Rico, lacks sound biblical preaching. The Lord has provided a well-situated building at a good rental rate where the group gathers two Fridays each month. They hope to begin Sunday evening worship in the spring. Nine people serve on a steering committee for the new work. Pray that God will provide wisdom as they make plans for the coming year. Pray that the Lord will provide a full-time church planter for the group. The group has a weekly radio program, which has produced contacts. Pray that the Lord will bless
Join the saints at Knox OPC as they praise God for providing their first two local ruling elders who were ordained and installed in late December. Pray for wisdom as these men and Pastor Sacha (Martina) Walicord seek to faithfully lead God’s people. The congregation aims to particularize this spring. Nine new members were added in December, and six more are taking membership classes. Attendance has grown to about 60 people on Sunday mornings. Pastor Walicord participated in a radio program last month, and the church was mentioned several times. Pray that those who heard of the church on the radio will visit worship. Pray also that the Lord would bless as Pastor Walicord teaches a course on early church history for a local homeschool group.
God has called Pastor Tim (Deborah) Herndon to plant Providence OPC in the hard soil of New England where less than 5 percent of the population attends church on Sunday morning. West Lebanon, NH has a mix of the slow-paced life of small town New England and a cosmopolitan feel due to its proximity to Dartmouth College. Pray that God will grant patience as Tim seeks to be faithful in breaking up this rocky soil. The group began meeting for prayer in April 2013. In August, a Sunday afternoon worship service was added to the weekly schedule. Praise God that he has provided free meeting space at another local church. Pray for wisdom as the group looks for space that will accommodate morning worship and Sunday school. Pray that the body will be
San Antonio Reformed Church lost the use of its former worship facility, and has found a new home in a restaurant. While the location presents some limitations, it is highly visible. Last weekend, an advertisement began running before each showing at the 14-screen theatre next door. Pray that these ads will lead to many visitors. More than a dozen members participated in a recent workday to help restaurant staff clean out their storage area. Pray with Pastor Andrew (Billie) Moody for more opportunities to build relationships with restaurant staff. One employee attended worship last week, and another indicated a desire to visit. The congregation continues to enjoy regular fellowship at events like a New Year’s Eve party held at the Moody’s
