Rev. John S. Shaw has been called as the new general secretary of the Committee on Home Missions and Church Extension. He expects to begin his service in March 2013. John is the founding pastor of Mission Orthodox Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he has served since 2006. He has served as a member of the denominational Committee on Home Missions since 2008, where he is chairman of the Church Planting Subcommittee. He will replace retiring general secretary, Rev. Ross W. Graham, who has served in that position since 1990. John has been a member of several OP mission works both as a child and as an adult. In 1995, he graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and entered a career in politics, including
When Jeremiah Montgomery took the call to serve as organizing pastor of Resurrection OPC in State College, Pennsylvania, he and his family were living about 45 miles away in Hollidaysburg, Pa. They put their house on the market in February and are well past the 180-day average time on the market. Though prospective buyers have looked at the house, it has not yet sold. Please pray that the house will sell soon.
Pastor Philip Dharmawirya reports that attendance and giving are stable at Emmanuel Indonesian Protestant Church. The congregation is united and cares for one another, but they are not growing in number. Pray that the leaders will continue to encourage one another as they consider the limitations of their ministry beyond first generation immigrants. Pray too for wisdom as they consider how they might be more closely united with another Indonesian congregation, forming one core group committed to the Bible. The bonds between the two congregations – both among the few non-charismatic Indonesian congregations in Philadelphia – have been deepening for some time. Praise God that the basement renovation project is going well with much help from
Providence Presbyterian Church has been encouraged by a good turnout of regulars and visitors at the Wednesday night Bible studies and by two new members joining in September. Pastor Markus Jeromin asks you to pray for a number of ongoing, relational ministry efforts with unchurched members of the community. Pray also for a larger, more permanent and visible location for the congregation. Also pray that God will make His people so joyful and loving that others will be compelled to join with Providence Presbyterian Church. Ask the Great Shepherd to raise up additional office-bearers. Finally, pray that some mature believers will relocate to join and help with the work.
San Antonio Reformed Church grew over the summer, and several adults professed faith and were baptized. A few families more are currently taking a membership class. Praise God for bringing in his elect. Give thanks with Pastor Andrew Moody for successful surgery earlier this year. He is feeling better than he has in years. The congregation has many young families and many young Christians. Pray for the addition of older couples and mature Christians. Pray for the family of one regular visitor who will be deployed by the military this week. Pray too that God will provide a musician to accompany congregational singing.
