Providence OPC in Tulsa Oklahoma began its term of denominational financial support this month as Pastor Jim Stevenson and his family arrived in town. The group, which now numbers in the low 30s met as a Bible study for some time before beginning worship this spring. They now gather in the chapel of a local Christian school for worship each Lord’s Day morning. Pray for wisdom as the congregation considers how to advertise to let people know of their presence. The church already has a website and Facebook page and sermons are posted on Sermonaudio.com. Pray too for both spiritual and numerical growth for this new church plant. Pray for the Stevenson family as they settle into their new home.
In September, the Presbytery of Connecticut and Southern New York approved Trinity Church (OPC)’s petition to become a particular congregation. Pastor Benjamin Miller is thankful for a cohesive group from the beginning of the mission work. He reports that the congregation enjoys good fellowship, which was seen at two summer feasts. Pray with the congregation that they will be able to turn these fellowship times “inside-out” using them as opportunities to invite the lost to meet the church. Attendance at worship now averages about 85 people. Praise God that five people recently joined the congregation, two new families have been attending regularly, and giving has been strong. Pray that the congregation will continue to grow and that efforts
Praise God with Fremont OPC that three covenant children professed faith and were welcomed into full communion this past summer. Pastor Vern Picknally reports that the congregation again saw many visitors over the summer months. Pray that the Lord would bring more local visitors, and that the body will be faithful in reaching out to the lost. After a summer break, a new year of Sunday School and catechism classes has begun. Four men are regularly participating in a leadership class, which is nearing completion. Pray with the congregation that the Lord will raise up elders and deacons in the near future. Please pray for two expectant mothers (both due in January). Pray too that the Lord would continue to bless the congregation through the
While the growth is slow, word of the faithful preaching at Pleasant Mountain OPC continues to spread in this small town about one hour north of Portland, ME. Pray that still more people will hear about this faithful congregation and come to worship. Pastor Tim Beauchamp reports that the group is continuing to grow in unity and in its understanding of what it takes to become a particularized church. Since many in the group are new to the OPC, he is preparing to teach an adult Sunday school course using the How to Plant an Orthodox Presbyterian Church manual. A recent “Prayer and Praise” event held at the home of a member was well attended and encouraging to the members. Please pray for the growing children’s ministry in this congregation
Seasoned pastor Stephen Doe, coming from Bethel OPC in Fredericksburg, VA, doesn’t officially start as Regional Home Missionary for the Presbytery of the Mid Atlantic until next week, but he’s already getting his feet wet at Virginia Beach. He’s “really thankful to be able to work with Lacey Andrews” (RHM of the Presbytery of the Southeast). The two have been collaborating on a twice-monthly Bible study in the Virginia Beach/Tidewater area. Please pray for a sense of commitment and connection to develop within the group, and that local leaders would emerge. Pray too for wisdom and contacts as he explores possibilities in Richmond, VA and in Maryland, and seeks church planting opportunities along the I-95 corridor.
