South Austin Presbyterian Church has moved from the school where they met for two years. They now meet in the Sunset Valley City Hall and are saving a significant amount in rent. Praise the Lord for his provision of a less expensive meeting place, which will go a long way towards erasing an expected deficit this year. Three men are nearing the completion of officer training, and Jim hopes that new officers can be installed this summer. There have not been many recent visitors, but the congregation planned for an aggressive outreach effort this year. They are advertising, and have begun sending out about 10,000 mailers every other month. Pray that the Lord will use these efforts to bring in new families. Praise the Lord for unity within the
Lacy serves on the sessions of five mission works in the presbytery. He has been able to visit each one of them in the last few months. Praise God for Lacy’s ability to visit these works and pray for continued safety in traveling. Most of his energies have been invested in the mission work in Winston Salem, NC where he usually preaches 3 of 4 Sundays each month. The group is seeing some growth, having received a new family and had another family from the mother church in Mount Airy commit to the mission work. They've also had a good number of visitors. Lacy has been working with another potential core group in Griffin, GA as they explore their interest in the OPC. The group shows good potential. Pray for wisdom as they consider their
Providence Reformed church recently lost two families. Praise the Lord that nearly 50 people are still gathering for worship each Lord’s Day, and pray that he will send new families to the group. The women of the congregation meet regularly for a Bible study. Pastor Kuhfuss and others minister to the elderly at several area nursing homes. Kim is also joined by one or two men each week as he goes to the county jail. He leads one Bible study in the minimum-security area and another in the medium-security area. About 20 men attend. Pray that the Lord will cause these efforts to
Two families will be received into membership on Sunday. The congregation prayed for young families, and now there are 15 children younger than 10. The congregation is beginning to pray for families with older children as well. Tim is meeting regularly with two Dartmouth students who worship at Providence. The congregation has enjoyed connecting with the denomination through work teams coming to help with their building, and visits from David Nakhla and Al Tricarico. A recent group made great progress on an office for Tim. Outreach has been slow. Pray for clarity as plans are made for outreach for the coming year including the possibility of a neighborhood Bible study.
Pastor Hartshorn reports that a strong zeal for evangelism is developing among the congregation of Anaheim Hills Presbyterian Church. The adult Sunday school class is studying evangelism ahead of a push to invite people to worship on Easter. A Sunday school program for children through high school age is beginning this week. Six men are working through an officer training class as the congregation hopes to be able to particularize next year. Worship attendance is now about 50 people. The group sent about 25 people to the new work in Corona, and is preparing to send nearly 10 more to Pasadena when worship services begin there. The Pasadena Bible study recently moved to a new room at Providence Christian College.
