Pastor Everett Henes had the opportunity to officiate the wedding of two recent graduates of Hillsdale College who have been part of Hillsdale OPC since their freshman year. The facility used for worship is lacking a nursery and Sunday school space, and worship cannot always be held in the same room. A committee to investigate other facilities has been formed. Everett attended an RTS course on campus ministry and church planting. Once a month the congregation assembles for a big meal and a Bible study after the morning service, instead of having an evening worship service. God has added new members. 26 people including 14 visitors from the community attended a summer community Bible study. This was combined with a once-per-week VBS. Praise
As the school year starts again, so do catechism classes at Providence OPC. Pastor John Hilbelink reports that officer-training classes were recently completed. Pray that God will bless those who participated in the class and raise up officers to lead his church in Rockford. Praise God that two covenant children were recently baptized, and one person was received on reaffirmation of faith. Give thanks for visitors who continue to come to worship, including some who attend regularly. Pray that God will bless activities such as the women’s Bible study as they begin again after a summer break. Pray, too, that the congregation will be a blessing as it continues to minister to a man who is in prison.
Pastor Drew Adcock reports that Omega OPC recently held its first big outreach event, a pancake breakfast. The turnout was not as large as hoped but two visitors returned for Sunday worship, with one indicating that she plans to attend regularly. The Adcocks hosted a 4th of July picnic for the church where many members enjoyed good fellowship. Pray that the Lord will bring new families to worship at Omega. The Pajama Factory, where Omega rents space will be holding “First Friday” arts events. Pray that Omega will be able to connect with those who attend these events.
The Committee on Home Missions and Church Extension meets at the administrative offices on September 11 and 12. Please ask the Lord to provide wisdom concerning the many important decisions that need to be made, including support for several new mission works. Pray also for the safety of the Committee members as they travel from around the country to attend this meeting.
Sovereign Grace OPC in the Quad Cities area of Illinois and Iowa is preparing to move from a youth center in Moline, Illinois, to a Seventh Day Adventist Church in Davenport, Iowa. Pastor Ken Golden reports that they will begin worshiping in Davenport, where many of the members live, in October. Praise God that one woman recently made a public profession of faith, and a covenant child is taking a membership class. The church recently had a booth at Davenport’s Streetfest. Forty people participated in “tabletop” presentations of the gospel (designed by Bill Welzien of Keys Evangelistic Ministries). Ken reports that some listeners were members of other churches, some just listened politely, but others were visibly moved by the gospel and gave
